OPEN AUDITIONS - Anyone can audition, you do not have to be a student at MCCC. NOTE: Auditions will be held on the Mercer County Community College Campus unless otherwise stated. Check the Kelsey Theatre for room location signs. All performances will be held at Kelsey Theatre, located on the West Windsor Campus of Mercer County Community College 1200 Old Trenton Rd, West Windsor, NJ 08550 .

“MY FAIR LADY”

AUDITION DATES:

SUNDAY, March 7, 2010 (starting at 2p)

MONDAY, March 8, 2010 (starting at 7p)

PREPARE:

-Vocal selection from any stage musical (unless auditioning for a non-singing role – see below) Please bring the sheet music for your song in the appropriate key.

-1-3 minute light monologue from any source.

-Applicants wishing to be considered for the roles of Eliza, Alfred P. Doolittle, Freddy Eynsford-Hill, and the Ensemble should be prepared for a dance audition as well.

NOTE: Since the show is set in London at the beginning of the twentieth century, accents will be important, either proper British or Cockney, depending on the characters.

AUDITION APPOINTMENTS AND QUESTIONS:

Appointments are required, and may be made via email to pierrotinfo@aol.com.

Applicants will be assigned to specific time slots when their appointments are made.

NOTE: While our preference is to utilize performers aged 18 years and older, some exceptions may be made for experienced younger teens in the Ensemble.

CASTING INFORMATION:

ROLES TO BE CAST

ELIZA DOOLITTLE – A flower girl working outside Covent Garden in London. Her potential to become a “lady” becomes the object of the bet between Higgins & Pickering. (Character age: 20s; Cockney accent; Strong vocal: Soprano; Strong dancer)

HENRY HIGGINS – British, upper-class professional bachelor, world-famous phonetics expert, teacher, and author of “Higgins’ Universal Alphabet” (Character age: late 30s-40s; British accent; Strong vocal: Baritone)

COLONEL PICKERING – Retired British officer with colonial experience and the author of “Spoken Sanskrit” (Character age: 50s-60s; British accent; Strong vocal: Baritone)

ALFRED P. DOOLITTLE – Eliza’s father; late middle-age but vigorous dustman (Character age: 40s-50s; Cockney accent; Strong vocal; Strong dancer)

MRS. EYNSFORD-HILL – A friend of Mrs. Higgins & Freddy’s mother. (Character age: 45-60; British accent; No vocal or dance)

MRS. HIGGINS – Henry’s long-suffering mother. (Character age: 50-70; British accent; No vocal or dance)

FREDDY EYNSFORD-HILL – Upper class young man who becomes completely smitten with Eliza (Character age: late 20s; British accent; Strong vocal: Tenor; Light dance)

MRS. PEARCE – Henry’s housekeeper. (Character age: 40s-60s; Regional accent; No vocal or dance)

ENSEMBLE – Various people of all backgrounds, from street dwellers to nobility (Character ages: 20s-60s; Cockney and British accents; Vocals & Dancing ARE needed).

ABOUT THE SHOW:

The story is based on George Bernard Shaw’s PYGMALION, which Pierrot Productions staged this February. This beloved Lerner & Lowe musical features the well-known story of Eliza Doolittle, the English flower girl transformed into a “proper lady” by the efforts of Professor Henry Higgins on a bet with his friend, Colonel Pickering, and the personal transformations through which the process puts both student and teacher. It won six Tony awards for the original 1956 Broadway production (including Best Musical, Best Direction, and Best Actor), and eight Oscars for the 1964 film version (including Best Picture, Best Direction, and Best Actor).

ABOUT THE SHOW:
This show is a black comedy about white trash written by Del Shore. The performance runs for one weekend and is part of the Annual James Tolin Memorial AIDS Benefit. Rehearsals will begin early-mid May, generally scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings.
