Howie Landa Tribute Fund
Howie Landa is one of the most renowned and highly respected basketball coaches -- men's and women's -- in the history of junior college intercollegiate as well as professional levels of the sport.
His impressive coaching career -- at all levels, including time at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), professionally, and internationally -- has tallied more than 600 wins. Years coaching for MCCC account for no small portion of Landa's illustrious career. His coaching success with our institution, alone, spanned more than 25 years.

Mercer's winning ways began when Coach Landa came to the college in 1961, when it was still Trenton Junior College. In 1963-64, the Vikings took their first trip to Nationals in Hutchinson, KS.
In 1968 the Vikings returned to Nationals, this time going as far as the Championship game before losing by two points. The 1972-73 team finally brought home the National Title, defeating host team Hutchinson in the championship game and completing a record-breaking 34-3 season. The streak continued with another national title in the 1973-74 season.
Many of Mercer's players continued their successful basketball careers at four-year schools. With their two National Championships, Mercer remains the only East Coast team to win the NJCAA title -- before or since. In addition to becoming a basketball coaching legend over his 25 years at Mercer, Howie Landa also coached baseball, men's soccer, and served as Athletic Director in the 1960s. Most importantly, though, Howie served the college for more than 25 years as a professor and mentor to so many students.
Maybe you were lucky enough to be on one of Coach Landa's athletic teams at Mercer. Maybe you were fortunate enough to have attended one of his classes. Or, maybe you attended a community event with him. Whatever your association with Howie Landa, no doubt he made a lasting impression on you.
MCCC being such a pillar in the Howie Landa success story, it is only fitting that the college recognize him for his accomplishments on the basketball court and beyond, enriching students' lives.
Serving this Howie Landa legacy, a committee of faculty, staff, former students, Mercer alumni, and Landa fans far and wide have assembled to raise significant funds in honor of Mr. Howie Landa.
A goal to raise at least $50,000 for The Howie Landa Tribute Fund will enhance MCCC's ability to fund the needs of the college's student athletes and the greater MCCC community. Along with much needed athletic facility upgrades and student scholarships, plans include donor recognition with permanent placement of Coach Landa's name on the MCCC basketball court.
